Issues

One-party Democrat rule in New York State over the last few years has resulted in over 700,000 people fleeing the state for more affordable and safer havens such as Texas, North Carolina, and Florida. A Marist study published by Newsday stated that 38% of New Yorkers would move out of state over the next 5 years. Since fiscal year 2019 the Democrat controlled NYS has increased the budget by 38%. We need change.  BIG CHANGE. And it starts by sending a message to Albany by electing common sense Republicans, like me to represent you in Albany.

Here are my common sense stances on the issues:

Crime

  • Repeal bail reform. To protect the public, judges must have more discretion in issuing bail and other restrictions so dangerous criminals aren’t walking our streets and endangering law-abiding citizens.

  • Support police immunity from prosecution for officers exercising judgement in the line of duty.  When our police hesitate a split second for fear of being sued – or losing their livelihood – lives are lost and crimes go unchecked.

  • Promote victim’s advocacy laws to protect survivors and victims in criminal cases by preventing their personal information from being disclosed to criminal defendants.  Make it required that a motion be made by criminal defense attorneys to show just cause to obtain any such information.

  • Require severe punishment for victim and witness intimidation.

  • Reform “discovery” laws to give prosecutors and law enforcement more time to certify cases ready for trial.

Illegal Immigration

  • End New York’s Sanctuary state status. This will significantly cut back gangs, human and child sex/slave trafficking, fentanyl poisonings and the drain of services from our municipalities, schools and emergency rooms. We can also reallocate that funding to reinvest in infrastructure for our aging water system, sewer systems, bridges, and increased funding to our hospitals and schools.

Small Businesses

  • I support granting start ups and small businesses tax credits to encourage entrepreneurs to start their businesses right here in District 6.

  • I will target main streets and undeserved communities, including MWBEs, to create a small business resource program to bring to communities information on forming small businesses, marketing, where to obtain resources, and how to bid on government contracts.

Energy/Economy

  • We need an economical and sensible energy policy. I support diversifying our energy sources, including clean energy sources, including utilization of nuclear and natural gas. I also support reassessing the unattainable energy mandates set by an unrealistic Democratic majority that are costing small businesses thousands of dollars in rushing to compliance which ultimately will be passed to all of us, the consumers.

Environment

  • Repair and update state roads and bridges.

  • Improve our local transit systems. Clean them up and reinstate and/or create tough laws to stop criminal activity.

  • Repeal the RAPID Act that makes it easier for the State to override local laws in order to develop renewable energy projects wherever it wants to.  While a responsible transition to a cleaner, more robust energy solution is a laudable goal, it should not come at the expense of local control or disregarding the concerns of the local community.

  • I will advocate for the flood gate project on Long Island’s south shore to protect communities on the coast from property damage from flooding. This will have a massive effect on insurance rates and serve to keep Long Island more affordable.

Housing

  • Create incentives for local municipalities to grant and maintain an increased percentage of multi-family homes.

  • I oppose the local zoning decisions being taken away from local municipal decisions makers.

Civic Service and Volunteer First Responders

  • I support providing more financial and benefit incentives to volunteer firefighters and first responders by compensating volunteers for training, lessening the training burden on volunteers, and passing the 3 year pension buy back for volunteer firefighters and first responders that are in civil service.

  • I will fight to improve tier 6 for civil servants by improving benefits, pension vesting, and healthcare.

Healthcare and Mental Health

  • We need to expand and incentivize education and training in the Healthcare sector by promoting medical programs in our colleges such as Nassau Community College, Adelphi University, Molloy University, and Hofstra University. I would also support grants for secondary schools to organize BOCES like programs that create pathways for high school students to enter the medical field.

  • Expand diversionary treatment (OASAS) programs for first-time offenders and in family court to address addiction and mental health crisis.

  • I support and will advocate for more funding for NUMC, especially to keep the burn center open.

  • I will also provide for grant incentives for hospitals to open and expand first-care clinics and other medical facilities in undeserved communities.

PROP 1 and Parental Rights

I oppose the Democrat-supported Proposition One. The so called “Equal Rights Amendment” is a misdirection by the Democrat controlled state legislature, and Governor’s mansion. This amendment, among other things, adds the word “age” and redefines “sex” to include “gender identity” and “gender expression”. This creates an unpredictable and subjective standard that forces the government to insert itself into family and personal medical decision making. Even Newsday in an article published October 25, 2024, states “[t]his amendment, for example, opens the door to judicial activism on contentious issues such as overriding parental control of medical decisions”. See link to Newsday Article titled “Vote ‘No’ on Proposition One”, published October 25, 2024 below.

This is what the Republican Party of New York has to say about it:

Prop 1’s irresponsibly-drafted language creates “new” constitutional rights likely resulting in removal of parental consent from health decisions impacting their children. Prop 1 adds “gender identity” and “gender expression” and covers all persons including minors. These new constitutional “rights” will grant minor children the right to transgender and other types of medical interventions – all without parental notification/consent. Parents will remain financially and legally responsible for managing emotional and physical results impacting their minor children. Governor Hochul and the legislature enacted a law to protect minors from abuse on social media. Yet, she ignores the genuine threat to minors under Prop 1.
